App: Safe Food
Developer: Happy Dead Designs LLC
Android package: com.happydead.safefood
Safe Food scans the barcode on a food pack, looks the product up, and shows what is in it with a green, amber or red verdict. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: we collect nothing. The only thing that leaves your phone is the barcode number you scan, sent to Open Food Facts to look the product up.
Happy Dead Designs does not collect, store on a server, sell or share any of your information.
The on-phone text reader is Google's ML Kit. It works offline, and your photos and the text it reads never leave the phone. Google's ML Kit may contact Google from time to time to check for updates, and sends Google anonymous statistics about how well the feature performs (for example, how long reading took and the device model). See Google's ML Kit terms.
Your scan history, the products you have looked up (saved so they work offline), and your settings (allergens and things to avoid, warning switches) are kept in the app's private storage. They are not included in cloud backups, and they are removed when you uninstall the app. You can delete your history and saved products at any time in Settings.
Safe Food gives general food information, not medical advice. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything, and the product data is filled in by volunteers, so it can be wrong or out of date. Always read the pack itself, especially if you have an allergy.
Links to the Open Food Facts website open in your web browser if you tap them. What that website collects is covered by its own privacy policy.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Any changes to this policy will be posted on this page with a new date.
